Assistant Commissioner (S/A) Office is one of the subordinate offices of the Revenue Department under direct administrative control of the Deputy Commissioner, Andamans District. This office is also known as :-
Administration
As mentioned above, the Administration of this office is under the direct control of the Deputy Commissioner, Andamans District. Secretary (Revenue) is the next higher authority.
Assistant Commissioner, South Andaman is also looking after the establishments as under:-
Tehsildar, Port Blair including Neil & Havelock
Tehsildar, Little Andaman
Panchayats & Blocks under South Andaman area

This office is headed by Assistant Commissioner (S/A) who is also known as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (S/A) and Sub-Divisional Officer (S/A).
Assistant Commissioner is assisted by a Reader (Revenue Inspector) and as Patwari.
In the ministerial side, Assistant Commissioner is assisted by the following staff:-
1. Stenographer - 1 No.
2. HGC - 1 No.
3. LGC - 3 Nos.
4. Hindi Translator- 1 No.
Role of SDM
As SDM(S/A) Assistant Commissioner has to conduct the SDM Court cases every day under various Cr.P.C. Cases. Further, as SDM (S/A), Assistant Commissioner has to look after the law and order problem, issue of permit for the loud speaker to be used in public places etc.
Activities & Services
As AC & SDM & Sub Divisional Officer, South Andaman (S/A), Assistant Commissioner is to look after the matter pertaining to administrative/service matters of the concerned staff.
All Cr.P.C. Cases, Registration of various Deeds, Revenue/Land matters such as mutation, sub-division, sales permission, money lending permission etc. etc.
